Hark! We have tile!

The tile is in and it is so awesome.  Just standard dal subway tile but I love the clean look.  The grout is a medium grey-I wish I could remember the color but can't recall right now.  I will ask the tile guy when he comes back to caulk.  He can't caulk yet as the granite by the range is still not fixed.

In fact, as of a couple hours ago, the granite company still had not called us back so I called them once again.  They had us on the schedule for tomorrow but never bothered to call and tell us.  Lovely.  And by tomorrow, it really could be any time tomorrow, probably not super early, so I guess they just think that I sit on my bum eating bon bons at home all day.  Less than thrilled.  I informed the man that I will not be making full payment at the end.  The question is, how much should I pay them?  I have already deposited half.  They have not destroyed my kitchen.  But I have probably called them over 15 times to schedule this stuff.  In my mind, I should have only had to call them to return a phone call from them.  I have already carved out my schedule to be here for templating (they were late), install (they had to take it out because it was done wrong) and then my brother in law had to be "on call" all day last week when he had friends in town and then be at our house for 3 hours. I will be "on call" all day tomorrow and then need to be home one additional time when they come to install the new pieces.  In addition, they were deceptive as they chipped the granite and thought it would be acceptable/I wouldn't notice if they just patched it.  They also forgot to drill for the sprayer so now our plumber has to do extra work to accommodate that until the hole is drilled.  How much should I take off the bill for all my time, inconvenience and pushing our project being completed off a few weeks?

But back to our lovely TILEWe used Reiner tile and Stone. Barrett is primarily a one man show. The nicest guy-his tiling is art and engineering combined. He is super meticulous and precise which works for us with Steve being an engineer and me liking things pretty. Plus, he loves to chat about anything from biking to the latest on NPR. Anyways, he also did our fireplace tile about 4 years ago. Give Him a ring- you'll love him. Barrett @ 503-956-1856. Reinertilepdx.com

He also will do maintenance on tile that you have weather it be grout chips, replacement, caulking or sealing.  We actually had a couple spots in our bathroom that never had grout put in and one place where the grout had chipped after only 2 years (what we get for choosing the cheap tile person for our bathroom) and he was able to repair it for us quickly-it looks great.

And of course some pictures of Ben being adorable in the tub earlier this week!  He is getting so big-it just kills me.

Epoxy and Tile

Well, I can't believe that the tile is finished!   woo-hoo!   Our tile guy finished late last week and we had a working shower, toilet and sink for Fri-Tues until we had the tub, soap dish and sink for the basement refinished yesterday!   It looks awesome, just back to several more days of no shower at our house until the epoxy dries.  The fumes cleared out enough that I was able to actually go in the bathroom today and start removing all the plastic and use the toilet and sink again.  I think that we will caulk the shower area tonight or tomorrow and then be able to use the shower again Saturday!
Steve has been working on stripping the wood work so that we can paint that.  We got a bid on a built-in but it was very over-priced in our opinion so are looking for people if anyone knows of someone.  I am hoping to buy sconces tomorrow-we settled on the Gilchrist from Rejuvenation but are still deciding on the overhead light.

Bano Update

Wow!  I can't believe it's already been almost a month since I have updated the blog-oops!   When you are out of town a couple weekends and deeply immersed in "remodel land," and oh yea, 8 months preggo, time just flies.  Finally, tile is on it's way in and we hope to have it done by mid-week with friends coming to visit over the weekend.  Next week I hope to get the tub, basement sink and soap dish resurfaced.   Then to pick out lights, do paint, electrical, fan and all the fun little accessories...don't forget a built-in.   All in less the 5 weeks before the babe arrives-hmmmm.....we'll see.

our current toilet....open air basement style-awesome to visit at midnight

Bathroom

Here is the bathroom once again, looking shabby as all h***, hopefully I can re-post with much better looking pictures within a month's time at most :)

view lookin' in...mighty fine flooring

where the sink will go back in, we love our little storage drawers, a pottery barn find

the sink (from rejuvenation, on the floor with pedestal missing); we won't discuss that Steve discovered last night that I accidentally threw out the bottom fitter parts for the new faucet when I was taking all the scrap metal to the curb-at least a $50 mistake-oops!

the door all pretty after paint was stripped, it was repainted and new (actually old), locking door hardware, new nickel hinges from rejuvenation

tile that we have chosen, all DalTile, classic colors...this way we can change towel and wall colors as desired

floor design we plan to have put in

simple, basic, classic wainscot tile-will cover the wrecked walls underneath.   Should we get ceramic or nickel plates for the switches/outlets?  hmmmm....

we plan to have the black pencil tile turn and go up in the shower area like shown here

Bathroom Tile Design Ideas

Well, with just 3 1/2 months to go until the baby comes, we decided that it is definitely time to get the bathroom remodel started....so we need to decide on bathroom tile design for both the walls (tile will go half way up with exception of at least 6' up in the shower area)-subway tile with some sort of border as well as hex floor tile design.  I would like to keep to black and white so that we can change out tile and paint throughout the years as we desire.  Let me know if you have any pictures that you especially like.
