here's the story of how our little bungalow is going from 1980s drab to 1913 fab

Got me a new door
None of those pre-fab doors around here...
Since our back door literally had water seeping under it (because the new kitchen flooring is lower than the old) whenever it rained and was scratched/rubbed raw/destroyed beyond repair, we decided that the only course of action to take was to get a new door.
Don't worry, I first scavaged every old house parts store from Portland or Aurora looking for an old door. Notta one to be found.
We got multiple bids and the least expensive was for a completely custom, solid wood door made by Willow Classic Woodworking.
He sent me this picture today. It's an exact replica of our existing door, except it's all new and pretty. Without damage everywhere. We did decide to get insulated glass in this puppy with all the weather that side of the house gets.
We can't wait to get the door delivered, installed, painted and up and running!
Not a good picture, but as you can see, he did a great job replicating the door.

It's gorgeous! The door in our kitchen that opens to the driveway is nearly identical, except it only has one large recessed panel on the bottom instead of three. It's beat to heck and you have to slam the heck out of it to get it to close. We need a new one badly. I've considered putting in a Dutch door that looks exactly like it, but it doesn't exist in the online world. If you don't mind me asking, how much did your custom door cost?
ReplyDeleteI e-mailed you, as you know. Pricey, but I think it was worth it. Need to post pictures. Looks amazing and works well too! Funny how water doesn't pour under the door anymore :)
DeleteI really love your attention to detail and keeping it historically accurate.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It makes me feel good to know that we are going as historically accurate as we can while staying within our style and means. The door is done and looks amazing. I just need to take pictures!
