More set backs

I am extremely frustrated today and so ready to be done with this kitchen.  All excited this morning when the granite guys arrived early and got right to work.  Super nice guys just doing their job.  Then they brought in the pieces of granite shown above in really crappy light.
Then I noticed that the granite seemed to stick out really far from the edge of the cabinets.  I thought maybe it was maybe just me but then it was still bugging me 20 minutes later so of course I start texting 2 of my friends who have granite and cabinets similar to ours.  I ask them to measure how far their granite sticks out.  Ours is 1.5" and looks awful.  Theirs is 7/8" and 1".  CRAP!
Try calling Steve but he's not answering.  I ask the granite dudes and they say it is standard to do 1.5".  Then I think another few minutes and say I still hate it and tell them to stop.  So of course I get on the phone with the guy we ordered through and he said that they should have had us approve the template but they didn't.  I still hate it.
The poor guys were forced to pull the granite out-luckily they hadn't carried the big piece in yet-and pack everything up.  I told them they needed to cut off a 1/2".  Spent the next hour or so on the phone trying to figure out when they are coming back.  No answers.  SOOOOO frustrated as it already took them a week longer than it should have to do install of the granite due to scheduling.  They are telling me now that they might not be able to get back in here to re-install until Monday after Thanksgiving.
Have back splash dude scheduled for next week and plumbing (our final item on the to-do list) the Monday after Thanksgiving.  All these items have to happen in order.  So more delays.  Not sure when it is gonna be done and we have guests coming the 30th.
So annoyed.  Anyways, they weren't able to schedule me before they closed for today so now I have to wait until Monday.  Totally pissed.

On the other hand, the paint looks awesome.  That is one project that will be done (paint and cabinets) by Thanksgiving.
SO SO SO Done.  Ready to un-pack and cook and eat real food for the first time in months.

  1. Because I was curious, I went and checked the overhang on our counters--it's an inch. Good luck. I totally understand your frustration.

    1. thanks! Yep, an inch seems standard when cabinet doors are flush. 1.5" if they stick out

  3. Wow, that is so irritating! I was also not happy with our granite installer, he put the pieces in over a half inch from the wall on both ends of the sink wall, my cousin (a tiler) had to float the wall so hard he needed a drink after. I hope this all works out for you!
